Betty L. Doebler November 30, 1926 - June 8, 2020

Betty L. Doebler, 93, of Avis, passed from this world and took her place in Heaven on Monday, June 8, 2020.

She was born on November 30, 1926 in Jersey Shore and was the daughter of Charles and Blanche Kaufman Shortlidge. She devoted most of her life to making a loving home for her family and friends.  Over the years, she was a member of First United Methodist Church in Jersey Shore, Oval United Methodist Church, and Trinity Lutheran Church in Avis. When her children were in school, she was proud to be the President of the Avis PTA.

Betty was known for her kindness and her smile. She delighted in her family, her friends, her cats, and the antics of the birds and fat squirrels that she fed on her deck for over a decade. She loved to work in her yard, to dress up, to dance, to play cards, to collect dolls, and, above all, to help people. Everyone who knew her has a story of how she helped them when they were in need.

Surviving are her five children: Marilyn (Willard) Jones and Risa Ulmer of Lock Haven, Patrice Doebler (Ken Hummer) of Jersey Shore, Melanie Doebler (Jeff Bridger) from State College, and Taylor (Virginia) Doebler of Wellington, FL. In addition, she is survived by her devoted nephew Larry (Nancy) Welfer from Sunbury. Betty was the beloved Mommom to six grandchildren—Christopher McCracken, Monica Jones, W.A. Jones, Alison Confer, Julie Ulmer, and Jim McCracken, and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her two best friends: her sister, Leah Welfer, and her aunt, Doris Thompson.

There will be a private family graveside service in Oval Cemetery.
